KOF Destiny Orochi Fight

While we are waiting for the King Of Fighters Destiny’s last two episodes, the series has finished its first season in China. the last episode, which leaked online yesterday, ends the season on two cliffhangers, teasing both KOF95-96 retelling as well as, surprisingly KOFXIV. We do not know what future of the series is, and wether we are getting a second season or not, however a message that appears at the end of the episode in Chinese, shown below, promises that this series (season?) is just the beginning of the KOF story in animation.

Thanks to our talented translator, Jovita Ho, we have a full translation of the message, which you can see below:

If you are seeing this message, it means that we have experienced a memory together that belongs to the age of KOF.

Being able to turn a game we terribly cherish into its animated, creative form has been truly wondrous.

During the broadcast of this season, many of you have left us comments. We are immensely grateful. Compliments or criticisms — we have quietly taken all of them to heart.

Our story has just begun.

KOF fighting!
Ha (three) ha (evil) ha (laughs)!

Jovita adds that the evil laugh at the end teases a bigger role for Iori Yagami, who we glimpsed at the end of The King Of Fighters destiny’s final episode.

It is definitely great to know there is more to come for KOF animation, and that they are taking both the praise and criticism to heart. The fact that they are also teasing a continuation of the story gives us hope that they wont skip the Orochi and Nests saga to jump on the KOFXIV hype like the last scene suggested.

What do you hope to see for a continuation of KOF Destiny? would you prefer a more traditional 2D anime, or is the CGI good enough to tell the rest of franchise’s story? Let us know in the comments section below!

The following is what I’d like to see:

    – Continue with Season 2 of The King of Fighters Destiny.
Despite some faults that the series has, I really enjoyed it, and wish for them to (at least) conclude “The Orochi Saga” arc (that is, if they can’t do all the arcs). As a huge fan of The Sacred Treasures team, I’d be really disappointed if that does not happen.

    – Keep the CGI animation, but continue to strive to improve their CGI quality. To be honest, I didn’t find he animation in first couple of episodes particularly good. This was especially noticeable in characters’ faces, such as Terry and Kyo. But they gradually improved over time, and by the second half of the series, the CGI as overall greatly improved. So unless they are hit by budget contraints, I’d say keep CGI.

    – Longer running time. This is the most common complaint by pretty much everybody. Instead of 7~13 minutes running time per episodes, I’d rather they have traditional roughly 20 minutes running time episodes (30 minutes if adds are included, if broadcast on TV), so they can get to explore more plot, show more action per episode.

    – Give the Art of Fighting Team more things to do.
While I wouldn’t say Art of Fighting team has my favourite characters, there’s no denying the fact that they were shafted in the first Season of KOF Destiny – basically getting the least story development, least fighting scenes and very small area given to them to shine, basically portraying them as gag characters.
I hope this changes, and I think it’s possible if they increase the running time, and further develop the story.

    – Make Iori badass. Though I have no doubt about this since Iori is one of China’s most favourite characters – and KOF Destiny is produced by China (but I guess it all depends on whether this is getting season 2)

God this. I get not everyone can play the big hero, but they still should have been treated better. Ryo is one of the pillars of SNK Fighting Game Universe [along with Terry,Kyo and Haohmaru] he should be treated alot better even if he isn’t the main character. He should have been one of the fighters to try and help Terry and Kyo against Rugal.

I did like Ryo’s match against Billy and Benimaru, but after that it seems they just changed the tone of his character to purposely present him as ongoing gag character.

While I like Terry and the Fatal Fury Team, I kinda wish they had put less focus on them after their Geese Howard arc (where they were given the lion’s share of focus) – since regarding Kyo, he’s the one who beats Rugal in KOF canon (so they don’t have much freedom regarding him but they have wriggle room regarding others),

Probably it would have been much better if Ryo busted the barricade open with his Haou Shokouken (and escaping, joining Kyo and the Japan team in their fight) instead of just collapsing and gettting brainwashed – but oh well.

Even if Ryo did escape the gas attack and join up with Kyo and Team Psycho Soldiers they would have found some stupid reason to be removed.

I think I’ll wait for you reviews next time. I have no interest in seeing Kyo the Mary-Sue again. Especially if its at the expense of the characters I do like.
