While we have to wait until next week for episode 23 of The King Of Fighters Destiny to air with English subtitles, the series aired its finale today in china. So what happened at the end of the series? Was there any set up for future season? Did Iori show up? If you do not care about spoilers you can find all these answers below:

Still here? Okay! So, after rugal pretty much wipes the ground will Kyo, Terry, Benimaru, Yuri, Athena, and Mai, he decides it is time to finish them off and inject himself with the black crystal. Becoming pretty much Omega Rugal, the big boss kicks the crap out of Kyo. the latter though finds his inner strength and powers up before spectacularly beating Rugal.

As Rugal lays unconscious, Heidern calls in reinforcement, but right before calling it a day, and in KOF94 endings fashion, Rugal self destructs the ship, but luckily our heroes were abl to make it out alive.

some time has passed and we find out Rugal, is alive, held unconscious in a tube somewhere while Mature discusses matters with her real boss, Leopold Goenitz. The kof96 looks pretty awesome, and is step ahead from the other characters models.

The episode then moves to Tokyo, where we can hear someone playing the electric guitar, as the camera zooms in we are semi-introduced to Iori playing the solo, before almost collapsing to the ground, as he feels the Orochi blood within him.

The most confusing part start now, as we taken to another shot of tokyo, with someone stading o a building roof, this someone turns out to be Kyo in his KOFXIV costume, with an updated 3d model, and his face looks completely redone. Does this scene takes place in the future? Or is the next series jumping ot KOFXIV? Or does it mean that the next season will have kyo wearing his KOF14? I really have no idea!

Nabil, AKA Strugler, is an old time fan of the fighting games genre. Born in the early 80's Strugler got to experience the rise (and fall) of the Arcade scene, and learned the hard way to never mash buttons in order to win the last third round of a Street Fighter II match.

If Yuri and Mai the canoncially weakest characters in SNK can join that fight then there is no excuse for Ryo and the others to not get involved as well.

    • KOFworld

Yeah. The art of fighting team really got the shaft in this first season. I think Yuri and Mai were included as nod to the KOF94 manga by ryo takamisaki where yuri, Kyo and Mai defeated rugal

Thanks. I’d ask if they got any props in any of the later mangas, but I probably already know the answer to that.

The art of fighting team only shined in the kof 2000 manhua by andy seto. They still lost but they really were perfectly depicted. The kof 95 manhua which is a ridiculous book has the art of fighting team as the winners of kof94 with ryo beating rugal.

Thanks. I might try and track those down.

This season 1 was really nice (for the most part), with amalgamated storyline between KOF 94 & 95, and first Fatal Fury, while serving as an excellent entry point for even people who didn’t know KOF before.

I really hope they don’t skip over to KOF XIV. “The Orochi saga” is still considered to be the best arc out of all the KOF arcs by many people (including me), and one of the primary reasons I watched KOF Destiny was the hope to see them adapting The Orochi Saga somewhere in their future seasons (and with anticipation of seeing The Sacred Treasure team vs Orochi).

Don’t know why they would have that last scene there. Unless they have a really good reason for it (explained in future seasons), I think it would just add to the confusion.

Or perhaps they’re still doing the Orochi storyline, but they’re applying Kyo’s KOF XIV design for the Orochi arc (instead of his classic look)?

The last scene was really out if knowhere and so confusing. I have bo idea why ypu would include that. It should have ended with the iori scene, unkes we are getting both a kof destiny season 2 and a kof14 anime this year which still mames no sense.

Here’s my stop. They introduce great villains but don’t know how to give them a proper ending.
